Asiatic Blood Tail – Lathrecista asiatica

As its name suggests, Asiatic Blood Tail dragonflies have red colored abdomen. At the tip it is black colored. And this distinct colors helps to easily identify it.

Asiatic Blood Tail (male) from Thattekad Sanctuary, Kerala. The light was falling directly on the dragonfly. So I had to under expose by -2/3 stops to get it right.

It is commonly seen around marshes and is widely distributed. But the female is not often seen. Its eyes are bluish at the bottom and sides, brownish at the top. Face is white. Thorax is primarily brown in color with yellow lines. Wings are transparent and wing spot is reddish brown.
